IO
She coming to a planet near you! IO is an alien nurse traveling the galaxy and helping those in need. IO believes being weird is the only way to keep the galaxy thriving. I created her at the beginning of my school career and utilized her for my BFA project.
I have a passion for digital and physical media, so I blended the two in these pieces. Below is a series of scenes depicting IO and friends in various situations that relate to me and my growth as an artist.
On to Big Adventures
This scene depicts two alien dogs next to a rocket, ready to blast off. The dogs represent my hometown, as they are designed after my childhood pets. The rocket is a nod to moving away to start anew.
Big Expectations
This piece reflects the unstable yet determined mindset to keep going. After moving to a new location, IO is met with many tasks and responsibilities to juggle. She feels pressure and an expectation she has to uphold for her folks back home.
Sweet Victory
This work is a giant ice cream cone with two scoops being conquered with a little flag of IO. This is in reference to graduating and receiving my BFA. The flag is also a technique I learned in one of my classes in my last semester of college—proving that even at “the end,” there are still many things to learn and improve upon.
